We organise our trips ourselves (several each year), and they are really off the beaten
track!! It is a unique and original way to have a very intense adventure that is nothing
like the travel brochures, but like your dreams, and all this in total safety, but with low risks.

Before starting the FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) I would like to point out that
if you want to organise your trip yourself, just for you and your partner, friends
or children, I will willingly help you and I could even suggest tour operators
that I know, and who have competitive prices in relation to
services offered.

What kind of qualities do I need ?

A good sense of humour and above all enthusiasm!! An enthusiastic person generally
knows exactly what he or she likes and if he doesn't, he will willingly learn and
will therefore know much about his field, which is important for the exchange
of information within the group, but also for the safety of everyone.

You cannot go to Africa without knowing at least the basics and features of Africa!!
For the rest, try to integrate into the group and encourage good humour and harmony.

What level should I be at ?

No level, because that is the whole point, I do not want to create homogenous
groups like at work, but rather groups comprised of completely different people
from various cultures, social backgrounds and so on. All that is of benefit to
exchanges, with no rivalry, as we are all different. I have not invented
anything!! Why do you think voluntary organisations are so successful!!
We are totally different people with an identical goal!!
The results are huge!!

I have never been to Africa !

Not a problem, but you must acquaint yourself with and learn the basics
I have outlined above. I know you will do it because
you are so enthusiastic !!

Am I too young ? Or too old ?

Not at all, we are often a group of men and women aged 20 to 69.

Can I bring my wife or my child ?

Whilst it is sometimes possible to come as a couple, in certain cases, bringing children
is not possible, for safety problems, as well as the unique photo opportunities. Our goal
is also to take photos and just one touch of the vehicle door latch, without opening it
would be enough to make all the animals flee as if we had the plague, even lions !!

How much does it cost ?

The big question!! But an essential one, because everything in the bush is very expensive
which is why we go in a group of 8, to have increased purchasing power!! (only 4 people per
car) We are 8, but we do not want to make any concession on our projects!! With Pierre
we have already covered 7000 km with 19 people in a Mercedes cattle-truck with
www.afrique-safari.com but that is all over now, we will never do that again!! Now
I want to live with nature and the animals close to the campsite and look at their
reactions in our company while taking photos!! As for costs, with everything
included (except flights) you should allow approximately 100 Euros per day
and per person for full-board accommodation (average stay 8 to 10 days
and everything is provided) most often with our own cook, and $20 for all
tips is sufficient ($10 for the cook and $10 for the driver) and $20-40
for return airport departure taxes if they were not included in your
airline ticket price. Remember to allow for souvenirs - crafts
postcards etc (and alcohol is not included). If you are on
a limited budget (like all of us), knowing that our waiting
time is fairly long, you will have time to save on
planning the "journey of your dreams" (the
flight usually costs around 800 Euros)

How do we choose the destinations?

We have a forum (see below - 360 registered as at 10 April 2002) and we find our
destinations based on the outcome of this forum or simply from magazines or
television programmes. Simply, if somebody wishes for example to go and
photograph and live with Diane Fossey's Gorillas in Rwanda, they post a
message on the forum and see the level of response. If there is any
interest, Pierre and I will make a decision about organising a trip
there, bearing in mind that there must also be a photographic
interest, remember that we are photographers and our aim
is also to produce photographic reports!!

Anyone can apply to come with us, as long as you have enthusiasm and a good
sense of humour, even if there isn't enough room for everyone!! Actually
we are victims of our own success and our trips are already full
14 months before their departure dates!!

Our choices are simple, we choose the most enthusiastic people, or at least, those
who best express their enthusiasm, as well as those who have a good sense of
humour and "joie de vivre", but in no circumstances would we make any differences
for race, colour, education, social class, wealth or other factors.

Pierre and I ask for respect and good manners between all participants; we speak from
experience and we would like to have a fantastic 8-day adventure as a community, in
good humour and joie de vivre. With this in mind, we ask everyone to respect the group
and each participant, by being discreet over any differences and not using our trip
to sound off about the world's intolerances, nor to declare your convictions!!
There are other times and places for that!!

This also applies to relations that may arise between men and women, or others.
I am a man who extols the virtues of tolerance and respect for humans, animals
and nature. I am always really pleased to hear of a love affair starting during a
trip, but I prefer being told about it once we get back, rather than noticing
it happening while in the bush. I think that can wait a few days!!

Who are we?

Pierre and I are enthusiastic nature and African wild animal photographers
(I also work in South America). We organise these trips as we also benefit
from these prices and we supplement them by doing photographic reports
that will be integrated into our image bank. If you want to, you can also
put your photos into our database; your pictures will clearly indicate
your copyright. However, please remember that you will need to
develop slides and have excellent picture quality.
